Working principle
Under the action of the rotating blade of the camshaft, one end is raised or lowered (directly or through a gear follower (lifting rod) and push rod to complete this action), and the other end will act on the valve stem. When the camshaft leaves raise the outer lever arm, the internal force will press on the valve stem, thereby opening the valve. When the outer arm rod is allowed to return due to the action of the camshaft, the inner arm rod rises, allowing the valve spring to compress and close the action valve.
The driving cam works by driving the camshaft. It can push the rocker arm to move up and down near the gun trunnion or rocker axis. In this way, under the action of the roller follower of the cam, the wear of the driving cam at the contact point with the valve stem can be reduced. At the same time, the action of another cam roller follower is transferred to the second rocker arm for similar movement. This rotates the rocker shaft and transfers the action to the poppet valve through the gear follower. In this case, the intake valve is opened, so that the gas rushes toward the cylinder head.
The lever arm that is effectively used (and therefore the force that can be used on the valve stem) depends on the ratio of the rocker arm. This ratio refers to the distance from the center of the rotating rocker arm to the top and the distance from the center of rotation to the action on the camshaft or The ratio of the distance at one point of the putt. The ratio of rocker arms designed by current cars is mostly close to between 1.5:1 and 1.8:1. However, in the past, there were only very few positive ratios (meaning the valve lift is greater than the cam lift), and even the negative ratios used before (meaning the valve lift is less than the cam lift). Many pre-World War II engines used 1:1 (proportional) rocker arms.
